As part of continuing education and training in the administration of law enforcement, Douglas Police Chief Shane Edmisten, Assistant Police Chief Brandon Pruette, and Chief Marshal Rodger Goddard recently attended the 2020 Annual Summer Training conference sponsored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP).  More than 450 heads of law enforcement agencies attended the 52nd annual summer training conference.

Chief Bruce Hedley of Lilburn Police Department, President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, stated, “In this new era of law enforcement, chiefs are constantly finding new ways to manage their departments.  From the type of officer’s we are hiring today, to the concerns of the public we serve, to the way policing has drastically changed.  The GACP continues to strive to provide the best training possible for the members of the association and be the standard for other chief’s associations across the country.”

The Summer Training Conference was held at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center from July 19th through July 22nd.  This year’s conference covered a variety of topics such as: Leadership in the Midst of Change: Challenges in Obtaining and Maintaining State Law Enforcement Certification; Georgia’s Juvenile Street Gang Crisis; Cargo Theft; Risk, Liabilities, and Opportunities for Agencies; Grant Funding; De-Escalation Procedures; Internet Crimes Against Children; Social Intelligence; Developing a Culture of Leadership Excellence; Social Media; School Crisis Reunification Plans; Human Resources Liability; and Transformational Leadership.

The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is responsible for the delivery of training to the chiefs of Georgia’s police departments and law enforcement agencies.
