Jimmy Carl Davis, age 75, of Douglas, Georgia passed away to his heavenly home on Monday November 23, 2020 at his home. Mr. Davis was born on September 20, 1945 in Douglas, Georgia the son of the late Jim Davis and Limmie Merritt Davis.

Jimmy Carl Davis was affectionately known as JC, Carlie, and Papa. He served the Douglas community for over 20 years as a firefighter, cooking and driving for Coffee County’s finest. For him, friendship was an fine art, and he never met a stranger. Anyone who came into his presence left feeling loved, and included. He truly believed that family and food cured most things. You could almost always find him around a dinner table whether cooking for someone or joining them for a meal.

When he was not in the kitchen or at the fire department, he spent time as a brick mason, building homes and buildings in and around South Ga. Looking back at his life we know he spent most of his time building, both homes, businesses, and friendships.

Everything about him reflected his love for Jesus. He ministered in song and word for over 40 years, pastoring at Pine Grove Baptist Church, as well as building, establishing, and pastoring at The Anchor Fellowship Church. He could sing like no other, and he and his daughters formed The Davis Family group. The Davis Family sang at churches, camp meetings and revivals, and he lived to carry that harmony with his friends and family.

When he was not in a church, or working, you could almost always find him outside. He was no doubt one of the best self-proclaimed hog hunters of his time and era. Whether it was hogs, deer or turkeys, he knew all the what’s and how’s. Fishing was a pastime he enjoyed, and even in his latter years, some of his best times were on a boat.

He spent over 50 wonderful years with his beautiful wife, Beverly. Loving, romancing and making her laugh was what they built their marriage on. They shared a  bond, and selfless commitment that can only leave us desiring to do the same. If you were to have asked him, he would tell you that his family was his greatest blessing and accomplishment. He poured all that he was into them, traveling all over to support them, showing up whenever they called. He was a daddy and papa like no other. And that legacy lives on, in the generations of ministry that he left behind through his children and grandchildren. He dedicated his whole life to love. Loving his community, loving his family, and loving Jesus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jo Smith Davis, two sisters, Corine Wise and Lillian Jenkins.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Davis Hutto (Darrell) of Denton, GA and Rhonda Davis Dodd (Charles) of Quitman, GA; son, Stacey Davis (Kelly) of Jesup, GA; two sisters, Laverne Cothern (L.G.) of West Green, GA and Maxine Wright (Jimmy) of Denton, GA; brother, Roscoe Davis (Jenelle) of Douglas, GA; eight grandchildren, Bethany Anderson (Rev. Hugh), Sgt. Noah Carter, Rev. Joshua Peavy (Vanessa), Rev. Thad Peavy (Cara), Hannah Vickers (Cajah), Kaylee Pruitt (Johnathan), Jordan Davis, Izzy Davis; one step grandson, Allen Dodd; eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 28, 2020 at 11:00am at Saving Grace Ministries with Rev. Gene Chaney, Rev. Cliff Kirkland, Rev. Jimmy R. Tanner, Johnny Wayne Jowers and Rev.Gilbert Womack officiating. Interment will follow at Hebron Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Fire Department, City of Douglas employees and Retired Fireman.
