Mary Baker Gornto Corbitt, age 80, of Macon, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at St. Simons Island, Georgia. She was born April 16, 1940, in Taylor County, Florida, to the late Oswald Gornto and Cathryn Ward Gornto (later Pickren). Known to many from her earlier years as “Mary Baker,” she was named for the beloved family physician, Dr. Baker, who delivered her.

Mary married the late Lester “Bill” Corbitt in 1964. Together they moved to Macon in 1972 where they raised their family and where Mary worked in accounting at WMAZ-TV until retirement. Her true passion was her family and friends. She served as Room Mother, Team Mom and PTA President, and never missed anything with her family.

Mary is survived by her son, Billy Corbitt, and two daughters Donna Corbitt and Susan Stahl (Steve), one grandson, Colton Corbitt, and one granddaughter, CathrynJayne “CJ” Stahl.  Also surviving her are one brother, Rip Revels (Kappy), three sisters, Jeanne Scott, Becki Sweeney (Brian), and Kelli Fair (Carl) and too many wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to name.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, William Gornto and Richard Bodiford.

Mary’s husband Bill was one of ten and she was the last survivor of that generation, having been predeceased by all of Bill’s siblings and their spouses. She was fiercely devoted to the many nieces and nephews of the Corbitt family, and she took her role as the “last parent” very seriously, but with her usual humor.

There will be a walk-through viewing held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Georgia. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00pm at Arna Cemetery with Chaplain Leslie Chandler officiating.

Attendees are asked to comply with the current guidelines and restrictions concerning containment of the coronavirus, including masks and social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing.

Relihan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
