South Georgia State College will close Friday, December 18, 2020, at noon for the holiday season. SGSC will reopen Monday, January 4, 2021, and spring semester classes will begin on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Douglas and Waycross Campuses as well as the SGSC-Valdosta State University Entry Program. SGSC will increase the face-to -ace course offering for the spring 2021 semester coupled with hybrid and online course delivery options.
Prospective students are encouraged to visit www.sgsc.edu for information about admissions, associate and bachelor degree programs, scholarships and financial aid opportunities. SGSC will be waiving its admissions application fee during December 2020 for spring, summer and fall 2021. In addition, SGSC will not require applicants to submit an ACT or SAT test score for the 2021 semesters. On-The-Spot Admission Days will be held Monday, January 4 through Thursday, January 8 between 10 am and 5 pm. Students can apply and submit admission documents for Spring Semester and receive an admissions decision the same day. Prospective students can apply online at www.sgsc.edu/apply in advance and drop off official transcripts to SGSC’s Admissions offices on the Douglas and Waycross Campuses.
Accepted and current SGSC students should communicate with their advisor prior to registering for Spring 2021 classes by scheduling an advising appointment in the Navigate Student App. Once students have met with advisors, online registration may take place. Admitted students should check their SGSC student email about orientation sessions and other upcoming opportunities and deadlines.
Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Students should complete the 2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for spring and summer semesters at fafsa.ed.gov to determine if they qualify for financial aid. Scholarships through the South Georgia State College Foundation and Dye Foundation are also available for eligible new and returning students at https://www.sgsc.edu/alumni-and-friends/scholarships.cms.
Affordable and safe housing is available for the Spring 2021 semester on the Douglas Campus. Students can apply online by clicking “Housing” at the top of the College’s webpage. The residence halls offer suite-style living with a separate bedroom for each resident.
South Georgia State College plans to continue to implement various mitigation strategies for spring semester, including maintaining socially distanced classroom spaces and wearing face coverings. As guidance from public health officials monitoring COVID-19 continues to evolve, plans are subject to change, and SGSC has developed contingency plans should it be necessary to shift back to remote delivery of instruction at any point during the semester.
