On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, representatives from the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and City of Douglas presented valuable information about Georgia’s Airports and the economic impact of Georgia Airports to the Joint Study Committee on Airport Infrastructure and Improvements at the State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia.  Mayor Tony L. Paulk represented the Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport before the Joint Committee.

Mayor Paulk addressed the Joint Committee on the economic impact of the Douglas Municipal Airport, the importance of the airport to industrial development efforts, shared success stories due to the airport, and the community effort to develop an education initiative to train aviation professionals.  Mr. Steven Markhoff, President & CEO of Global Aero Holdings, Ltd., spoke briefly to the Joint Committee about the public-private partnership that is developing with the City of Douglas.

“Douglas Airport has all these assets that are underutilized,” said Mr. Markhoff.  “We are going to bring our aviation ecosystem to Douglas and it will be transformative for the community.”

It is estimated that the public-private partnership with Global Aero Holdings, Ltd. has the potential to bring an estimated $50 million in economic impact, within the next 4 years, to Douglas by developing an aviation school, aircraft maintenance program, aircraft charter services and other aviation related services to the Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport.
