Mr. R.T. Merritt, aged 85, of Nicholls, Georgia, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Mr. Merritt was born on July 31, 1936 to the late Ivey and Alice Harper Merritt.

 

Survivors include: Son; Autrey Merritt (Rhonda) of Nicholls, GA. Daughter; Phyllis McGray (Foye) of Nicholls, GA, four Grandchildren; Joei McGray, Coye McGray, Lee Merritt, Alyssa (Lee) Evans; and five Great-Grandchildren; Kinsley Carver, Emeri Evans, Kreed Tanner, Macy Tanner and Maylee Evans.. Mr. Merritt was preceded in death by his parents, Ivey and Alice Harper Merritt, and his wife, Myrtle Merritt, son. Lamar Merritt, 3 brothers, Kelley Merritt, Wendell Merritt, and Waldo Merritt.

 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM, at Sims Funeral Home.

 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 2:00PM, at Saginaw Baptist Church with Rev. L.G. Aldridge officiating. The interment will follow at Griffin Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Randy Harrell, Dobbie Cothern, Darrell Merritt, Don Merritt, Mike Kirkland, and Scottie Thomas.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all customers, guests, and attendees to wear medical grade masks at all times while in our facility, as well as social distancing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however the safety of our staff and those we serve are our primary concern. Masks will not be provided.  

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
