Mr. Alex L. Mobley, age 94 of Douglas, passed away Thursday morning, February 10, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Mobley was a Son, Brother, Cousin, Husband, Dad, Uncle,Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great-Great Grandfather, Farmer, Sailor and Shipyard worker.

 

Born August 16, 1927 in Broxton, GA, he went to school in Broxton through the 3rd and part of the 4th grade He then dropped out of school to help support his family.

 

He served in the US Navy from WWII through the Vietnam era, 1944 through 1967. After that he worked in the shipyard in Jacksonville as a welder/burner for 21 years. He was the last surviving child of eight children of Marvin McCager Mobley and Matisha Deen Mobley.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lee Deen Mobley, Wiley “Ted” Mobley, Ralph McCager Mobley and sisters Evelyn Mobley Whitley, Marvelyn Mobley, Grace Mobley Cartrette and an infant girl unnamed.He was known as “Code” of Ledmon by his family and friends

 

Survivors include:

 

His wife of 75 years: Vonice Courson Mobley of Douglas, GA

 

1 Son: Larry Mobley and wife Linda of Douglas, GA

 

1 Daughter: Bonita Ann Mobley Redmond of Tallahassee, FL

 

5 Grandchildren: Phillip Mobley of Portsmouth, VA
Patrick Mobley of Ballard, WV
Neil Mobley of Chesapeake, VA
Rebecca Redmond of Hendersonville, NC
Andrew Redmond of Asheville, NC

 

3 Great Grand Children: Kristen Nicolas, Phillip Mobley, Jr. and Scott Mobley and wife Taylor

 

4 Great-Great Grandchildren: Alyssa, Landon, Addison Nicolas and Blake Mobley

 

Close Cousin: Charles Deen and wife Diane

 

Many other cousins, nieces and nephews

 

The graveside service and interment will be Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Lone Hill Cemetery near West Green with Rev. Walt DeLoach officiating. Rev. Chris Watson will present a prayer.

 

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 14, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ricketson Funeral Home.

 

Due to COVID, the funeral home has asked all attendees to please follow the rules and guidelines for social distancing and to wear your mask for safety precautions at the visitation, graveside service and interment.

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
