Last week, Douglas native Mickeayla Brockington qualified to run for the Georgia House of Representatives District 169 seat. She will run as a Democrat.

Under the newly drawn House of Representatives maps, District 169 covers most of Coffee County, all of Irwin and Turner counties, and the northern portion of Tift County. The incumbent is Clay Pirkle, a Republican who also qualified to seek re-election. Rep. Pirkle has represented the western portion of Coffee County in the state House for several years.

Brockington released the following statement on her Facebook page: “Last week, I sat in a chair and signed my name to become a qualified candidate for the Georgia House 169 State Representative Seat. My life is not my own, but to God, I belong; and I give myself away to be used for his purpose. This Campaign is no political gain, just advocacy work. We plan to create A One Georgia regardless of title, race, or gender. One Georgia. One Girl. All in.”

The primary is May 24, 2022. However, neither Brockington nor Pirkle have primary opposition. They will face each other in the general election, which takes place on November 8, 2022.
