A dispute over missing clothes has landed a 25-year-old woman in jail after she allegedly attempted to run another woman over with her car. According to a witness statement, the suspect, Taylor Jones, had two small children in the vehicle at the time.

A copy of a Douglas Police Department incident report states that on December 26, 2022, around 11:30, an officer was dispatched to Amberwood Apartments after someone reported an active fight at the complex. When the officer arrived, he spoke to a 31-year-old woman, who reported that she and Jones had a heated argument about “some missing clothing” while Jones was sitting in her vehicle. She said that she was standing at the driver’s side of the car, questioning Jones about the clothing that Jones had in her possession, and then began walking on the sidewalk to return inside an apartment.

The victim claimed that as she was walking on the sidewalk, Jones “put the car in drive, moving up a few inches,” after which the two women exchanged more words. Jones then reportedly “hit the gas coming at her at a high rate of speed,” with the victim jumping out of the way. The victim stated that Jones’ car hit the sidewalk and damaged the property’s landscaping, a sign, and a bush. She also said that Jones had two small children in the car with her.

The woman claimed that Jones then opened the driver’s side door and ran into an apartment at the complex. She confronted the woman, and they began fighting, causing damage to a coffee table and other items inside the house.

A witness at the scene told the officer she was outside walking and heard the two arguing. She stated that she looked down towards the commotion and noticed the women fussing “really loudly.” The witness stated that she observed a woman standing next to a vehicle who attempted to walk back into the apartment by walking on the sidewalk when she noticed the driver “hit the gas trying to run her over.” She stated that the female driver jumped out of the car and ran, while the other female gave chase.

According to the statement, the two then began to fight inside the apartment, and the witnesses claimed that she told Jones to “tell the truth” because she “saw the whole thing.” Jones, according to the report, told the officer that she and the victim had been having an ongoing dispute about the clothing. She stated that “things got heated” and admitted trying to hit her with the vehicle. The report states that Jones “said she didn’t mean for it to happen, but was not denying that she did it.” She also claimed that she ran into the apartment to get away from the victim.

After receiving witness statements, Jones was taken to the Coffee County Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, criminal damage to property in the second degree, two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree, and criminal trespass.

Jones was released on a $22,600 property bond on December 28.
