Taechia Thompson, 51, of Douglas, was recently arrested after she allegedly stole a car, a gun, several other items that were later pawned, and used a Cash App connected to the victim’s bank account, with 206 transactions made without his knowledge. The victim was an elderly man.

The incident report states that on January 6, an officer spoke to a 75-year-old man at the Douglas Police Department regarding the thefts. The victim reported that Thompson had taken his vehicle the day prior from his home without his permission while he was sleeping. According to the complainant, Thompson also came into his room, stated that she needed his pistol, which was sitting beside his bed on a nightstand, and took the gun from the home. He stated that he was asleep when Thompson came in.

The victim also stated that Thompson had previously taken several items from the home and that he later found a receipt from Lending Bear Pawn. He went there and spoke to an employee, who told him that Thompson had pawned some items but was not able to tell him what the items were. The officer then went to the pawn shop and spoke to the manager in reference to the allegations. The manager told the officer that Thompson had pawned nine items, with the pawn shop’s contracts showing that Thompson was the one who pawned the items. The manager printed a report for the officer. The items included a Samsung Galaxy a103 ($90); Ego Battery 56v and a charger Ba1400 ($100 pawned); Comforts heater ($90 pawned); RYOBI cordless screwdriver ($25 pawned); Samsung surround stereo HW-T60m ($350 pawned); Up-tech Monsta speaker ($20 pawned); LG mini stereo ($30 pawned); Wagner paint sprayer ($170 pawned); and a Top Tech audio cell speaker ($15 pawned).

According to the officer’s report, all the items except the Samsung Galaxy were recovered and returned to the victim. At the time of the report, which was made on January 7, the vehicle, gun, and cell phone had not been recovered.

The victim also reported that his bank account was missing money as well and printed out a bank statement dating back to November 16, 2022. He told the officer that there were several transactions from a Cash App account that he did not know about. An individual, according to the victim, told him that Thompson had been using his bank account to take money out using her Cash App account. The officer spoke to the individual, who reported that Thompson had told her that she was using the victim’s bank account to get money. She also stated that she had been “getting money sent to her through the account, but did not know where it was taken from at the time.”

According to the officer, there were 206 different transactions from a Cash App account on the victim’s bank statement from November 15, 2022, to January 5, 2023, totaling $4,208. Officers arrested Thompson and charged her with one felony and seven misdemeanors, including theft by taking (felony), theft by taking (misdemeanor) and six counts of misdemeanor theft by deception. She was released on a property bond on January 11.
