A 42-year-old man has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, obstruction, and other charges after he ran into a stranger’s home in an attempt to avoid law enforcement.

Prior to the incident, an investigator with the Coffee County Drug Unit saw Bobby Lee Hilliard, “acting suspiciously” in the area of 350 New Forest Highway. As detectives attempted to approach Hilliard to speak with him, he walked into a house at the location.  As Hilliard entered the home, detectives heard the homeowners yelling at the suspect, “saying they did not know who he was and to leave.” When the detective was trying to detain Hilliard, he continued to run into the residence, leading to a brief struggle between him and the detective.

Hilliard was eventually detained, and detectives found a broken glass drug pipe. After being transported to the Coffee County Jail, staff searched him again and found a quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Due to the amount of methamphetamine located during the search, Hilliard was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, possession of a drug-related object, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
