Rebecca Grennell, 31, has been arrested and charged in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation after deputies found a car she had borrowed in the woods. The car had been sprayed with black spray paint.

According to an incident report, on February 15, the owner of the car reported the vehicle stolen. The complainant told a deputy that she had let Grennell borrow the car at 1:30 a.m. that day. Grennell was supposed to return the vehicle later that day but didn’t.

According to the complainant, Grennell had asked to borrow the car to pick up a friend in Pearson. She had agreed to return the car to the owner later in the morning. The owner reached out to Grennell about 2 p.m. to no avail. The report states that around 4:30 p.m., Grennell said she would bring the car to the owner’s house. An hour later, Grennell informed the owner that the car was at Walmart with the keys in the console. The owner went to Walmart and the car was not there.

Officers continued looking for the car and finally found it hidden in the woods near Harvest Street in Oak Park. The deputies that found the car noted black spray paint on the vehicle. A friend of the owner had texted Grennell who admitted that the car was in a patch of woods. According to the report, the friend also said that Grennell had sold the car.

On February 17, officers found Grennell and charged her with felony theft by deception and second degree criminal damage to property. She was transported to the Coffee County Jail where she remains.

According to documents filed in the Superior Court of Coffee County, this was not the first time Grennell has been in trouble. She pleaded guilty to burglary in the second degree in 2019 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Grennell also spent time in prison on several convictions in Effingham and Telfair counties, including three counts of violation of a motor vehicle law, possession or use of a drug-related object, possession of methamphetamine, and fleeing and eluding police. She was released from the Emanuel Women’s Facility in November 2022.
