South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team closed out the regular season with a strong finish Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 100-66 win over the Southern Crescent Tech Tigers. With Saturday’s win, the Hawks (23-7, 12-4 GCAA) also clinched the second seed in the GCAA Conference Tournament. The tournament begins Tuesday night.

Carlos Hart led SGSC with 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Kyric Davis finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots, and two steals.

The Hawks led 41-23 in the closing seconds of the first half when Hart hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Hawks to the locker room leading by 21 points. Hart’s three-pointer seemed to be a scoring spark for SGSC as the Hawks missed only seven shots (21-for-28) and five free throws (12-for-17) in the final 20 minutes.

SGSC held Southern Crescent Tech to 37.7 percent shooting for the game and forced a total of 29 turnovers.

The GCAA Tournament opens Tuesday night, March 7 with the top four teams hosting a quarterfinal game. As the second seed, SGSC will host South Georgia Tech in Waycross with tip set for 7 p.m. The GCAA semifinals and championship game will be played March 10-11 at the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round.

General admission to Tuesday night’s game is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
