The evening of Saturday, March 18, was an eventful one in Douglas and Coffee County. Not long after an alcohol-fueled brawl broke out in downtown Douglas along the sidewalks of North Peterson Avenue, another calamity took place, this one in Baymeadows. And alcohol was also involved in this one. Allegedly, of course.

According to documents obtained by DouglasNow, Seth Michael Hulett, 23, was driving a silver 2019 Ford F-250 with a flatbed body on Baymeadows Drive East. The truck left the roadway and crashed into a house, causing extensive damage and terrifying occupants.

According to one of the occupants, the truck struck the home at a room in which her 86-year-old mother, who is on hospice care, was staying. The impact moved the room off the foundation several inches. The vehicle stopped when the concrete steps on the front porch broke an axle on the truck.

Everyone in the home was unharmed, as was Hulett. However, the room is no longer safe and the occupants’ mother had to be moved into another room in the house.

A trooper from the Georgia State Patrol responded to the call. He arrested Hulett and charged him with DUI and failure to maintain lane. Hulett was transported to the Coffee County Jail. He was later released on bond.
