Darren Andrew-Lee Watson, 22, is in jail on aggravated assault charges after he allegedly walked into a home where his ex-girlfriend, her boyfriend, and another individual were and pointed a gun at all three. A shootout ensued but no one was injured. The incident took place on the afternoon of April 12, 2023.

According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a home on Greenfield Circle and spoke to Jamahri Anderson, 22, who said he had been at a home a few places down the street with his girlfriend and David Atkinson, 18. While they were there, Watson, the ex-boyfriend, showed up. Anderson’s girlfriend stated that the door to the home was open and Watson walked in with a gun. According to the report, Anderson said that Watson pointed the gun at all three.

Anderson jumped up and ran to the bedroom. He intended to jump out of a window. He broke the window, the report says, then realized that he had left his girlfriend behind. He could not leave her there, the report states. There was a gun in the bedroom; he grabbed the gun and ran back into the room where everyone was. He went to the front door and fired a shot at Watson, who was just outside the door still holding his gun. Watson ran off and fired shots back at Anderson as he was running away. Watson left the property in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.

In the report, the female victim stated that she and Watson were formerly a couple. However, they had problems and split up. She and Anderson got together but started having some issues. She went back to Watson then left him again to get back together with Anderson. Since her reconciliation with Anderson, the report says, Watson had been riding by their home and harassing her.

And everything reached a boiling point on April 12.

Officers went to the home where the incident took place and discovered a spent shell casing and several bullet holes on the right side of the front door. Officers then went to Watson’s home but he wasn’t there. Watson was eventually charged him with aggravated assault. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.

Officers determined that Anderson had acted in self-defense. No charges were filed against him.
