A chase that began just after midnight on June 24 ended like many of the recent pursuits — with the car wrecked and the alleged driver in handcuffs.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on June 24, a deputy noticed a white Chrysler 300 speeding on Highway 221 North. The vehicle turned on to Spring Oak Street and continued speeding up. The deputy attempted a traffic stop; however, according to the report, the driver did not comply.

The driver, identified as Montel Jermaine Jackson, 27, of Pearson, continued through Oak Park, traveling too fast for the area and, as the report says, “using no due regard for people or vehicles.”

The vehicle turned back on to Highway 221 and headed toward Douglas traveling at speeds over 100 mph. A state trooper joined the pursuit and took over. Jackson turned on East Walker Street and traveled west to Gaskin Avenue. The trooper performed a PIT maneuver at East Gordon Street and Gaskin Avenue, bringing the pursuit to an end.

Jackson was arrested and hit with a host of charges, including fleeing or attempting to elude, DUI, open container, endangering a child by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, speeding, and a number of other traffic offenses. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail. He has since been released.
