A 39-year-old Douglas man who had been released from prison on July 3 went back to jail on July 4 following a domestic dispute.

A report from the Douglas Police Department states that an officer responded to an East Mitchell Street address around 11:30 a.m. on July 4 in reference to a domestic incident. As the officer neared the address, he noticed a female juvenile waving him down. The juvenile said that the suspect, identified as Robert Linton, 39, was inside hitting her mom.

The officer went inside and saw the victim, who looked disheveled, and Linton. The victim pointed out Linton as the one who had been hitting her, the report states. The officer arrested Linton after a brief struggle.

The victim stated that Linton had been released from prison the day before. He wasn’t supposed to be drinking, the report states, but he had been drinking anyway. The victim stated that she did not need medical attention. Two juveniles, ages 4 and 15, were at the home when the incident happened.

Linton was transported to the Coffee County Jail. At the jail, the officer questioned Linton about what happened. The report states that he simply replied, “You want any drugs?”

Linton was charged with two counts of simple battery (family violence) and obstruction. He also had two active warrants from the sheriff’s office. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.

The Georgia Department of Corrections shows that Linton had been serving a 20 year sentence for the sale/distribution of cocaine from Atkinson County. He began serving his sentence in 2011. He had been serving his sentence in Calhoun State Prison.
