The City of Douglas has been awarded the Walmart’s Local Community Grant courtesy of the local Walmart (Facility #593) in the amount of $1,000. The city obtained this funding through a commitment to quality-of-life improvements in Douglas. The grant will aid in purchasing a portable weather-resistant stage for the pocket park. The addition of this stage will enable improved exposure to various arts and recreational experiences in an easily accessible area downtown for everyone in our community.

“We are thrilled to receive the grant from Walmart,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “Local community grants such as these help us continue to provide quality of life projects for our residents and visitors.”

Walmart Local Community Grants seek to improve local communities for the benefit of low-income individuals and families; foster the building of relationships and understanding among diverse groups; provide after-school enrichment, tutoring, or vocational training for low-income individuals and families; prevent waste, increase recycling, or support other programs that work to improve the environment; provide medical screening, treatment, social services, or shelters; provide federal or charitable meals/snacks for low-income individuals and families; support public safety programs through training programs or equipment; and improve access to recreation, arts or cultural experiences.  For more information about the upcoming improvements to the Pocket Park, please contact Georgia Henderson at 912-383-0277 or ghenderson@cityofdouglasga.gov.
