Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is leading the NFL in receiving yards and is on pace for a record-setting season.
Six games in, Hill has 42 receptions for 814 yards and six touchdowns. He’s averaging over 135 yards per game, which has him on pace to amass over 2,300 yards for the season if his production continues at this level. The single season receiving record stands at 1,964 yards, set by Calvin Johnson in 2012.
In Sunday’s 42-21 win over the Carolina Panthers, Hill caught six passes for 163 yards and a touchdown.
Sitting behind Hill is A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown has caught 42 passes for 672 yards and two touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills’ Stephon Diggs rounds out the top three with 620 yards on 49 receptions and five scores.
Part of Hill’s success is tied to that of quarterback Tua Tagovailova, who leads the league in passing with 1,876 yards. Tagovailova has completed 140 of 197 attempts. He’s thrown 14 touchdowns to five interceptions. Tagovailova leads second-place Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings by about 200 yards.
The key for Hill is his quarterback remaining healthy. He was catching passes at a record-setting pace last year when Tagovailova went down with a series of scary concussions that put the brakes on Miami’s momentum. However, when Tagovailoa is healthy and on the field, he thrives in head coach Mike McDaniel’s system.
For his career, Hill has 640 receptions for 9,154 yards and 69 receiving touchdowns (82 touchdowns overall) in 114 games.
Currently, the Dolphins are 5-1 and sitting in first place in the AFC East.
