On October 18, 2023, deputies arrested Carlos Omar Ochoa, 41, of Douglas, on aggravated assault charges after he allegedly entered his wife’s home and cut a man in the face who was in bed asleep with his wife. The incident took place around 3 a.m., according to a sheriff’s office report.

This was the latest of multiple incidents that have occurred involving these same individuals. Back in April, Ochoa was arrested and charged after he, allegedly armed with two guns (a Glock and a Smith & Wesson), went to the place where the victim works and allegedly chased the victim through the property. Ochoa allegedly then shot out two tires on the victim’s Ford pickup.

Ochoa charged with criminal damage to property (2nd degree), discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and reckless conduct in that incident. He was jailed then released on bond. Additionally, he was charged with two traffic infractions, including DUI, in connection with that incident. Those charges are still pending.

The latest incident occurred when Ochoa allegedly entered the home located on Cromwell Circle in which the victim and his wife were sleeping. The report says he came in through a back door and bypassed the security system. The address listed in this most recent report is the same address given as Ochoa’s in the April incident.

The report says that initially, Ochoa and his wife denied that anything had taken place. However, they both eventually told what had happened. When officers arrived, the victim was not at the home.

Both Ochoa and his wife told basically the same story to the reporting officer. According to the report, Ochoa entered the home with a knife. He went into the bedroom and held the knife to the victim’s throat. In the report, Ochoa stated that he told the victim to never come back to the residence. Ochoa denied that he cut the victim. However, the deputy went into the bedroom and found blood on the pillows, floor, and bed sheets. The female also had pictures of wounds the victim had sent her, allegedly as a result of being cut by Ochoa.

When officers arrived, the victim had left the residence and gone to his home. A deputy spoke with the victim later who said he was asleep when Ochoa cut him. He didn’t realize it at the time but discovered the wounds when a family member picked him up after the incident happened.

During the investigation, officers discovered that Ochoa had an active warrant out of Berrien County. Officials in Berrien County wanted a hold placed on Ochoa. He was taken to the Coffee County Jail and faces aggravated assault charges for the incident as well as more charges in Berrien County related to the warrant. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.

The victim’s injuries were superficial and did not require urgent medical attention.
