“When adults compete, kids win. And boy did they win this year,” said Cam Coffee at the ceremony Precious Possessions Learning Center held to present the Child Advocacy Group of Coffee County a large check from the MANnual Cake Auction on Monday night.

For the second year in a row, Precious Possessions hosted an online auction featuring cakes made by men who donned baking aprons and took to their kitchens. Last year, the auction (along with the accompanying shrimp and grits fundraiser) raised $37,000.

This year, the group of men hit the six-figure mark and raised $127,150.28. Julie Matthews of Precious Possessions, along with a few of the bakers, presented the check to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County. “There are no words. The Lord handpicked y’all. I believe it. He knew how the people would respond to y’all, how the community would respond to y’all. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. This was just laid in our lap almost. Such a blessing,” said Julie Monday night as she choked back tears.

“Your friends and your family who showed up for you showed up for these kids. We don’t know them. We don’t have to know them. All we have to know is the purpose. We present them the money with a blessing free to go do what it’s supposed to do. Let this money go out and touch everybody it can touch,” said Clifton Matthews.

Next year, Precious Possessions plans to host the auction for a third year and top this year’s donations.

The Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County provides funds and support for children and families affected by childhood cancer in Coffee and surrounding counties.
