Mrs. Marie Sears Mathews, age 69, of Douglas, Georgia passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, December 11, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Mathews was born Wednesday, August 11, 1954 in Douglas, Georgia to the late Roger Hugh Sears and the late Oda Carver Sears. She made her career as a bookkeeper and worked for many years for Golden Poultry. Mrs. Mathews loved her grandchildren and was an avid bingo player. Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening and going antiquing. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Westwood Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Calvin Sears, Michael Sears and infant Alan Sears.
Mrs. Mathews is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Charles E. Mathews of Douglas, Georgia; 2 children: Jennifer Peacock and husband Henry of Douglas, Georgia, Randal Mathews and wife Denise of Douglas, Georgia; 6 grandchildren: Rose, Gracie, Williamina, Daniel, Marah, Skylar Woeser; and a great granddaughter: Allison Merritt. Several nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. George Carrol Paulk officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.
