Mr. Hershell Lee Jones Sr., age 74 of Douglas, GA, died at his residence Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2023. Mr. Jones, a native of Jeff Davis County, was born on Sunday, January 2, 1949, to the late Mr. Thomas E. Jones and Mrs. Elizabeth Marie Jones. He retired in 2012 after fulfilling forty- four total dedicated years of service at Pilgrims, with Live Haul Manager being his final title, as he held many over the years. Mr. Jones was a loving husband, the best daddy, papa, and great-grandpa. He loved the outdoors, fishing on the river, and deer hunting, but what he loved the most was cooking and spending time with his family.
His survivors include: his wife of fifty years Samantha Jessie Lee Jones of Douglas, GA, Two Sons; Michael (Melissa) Jones of Douglas, GA, and Hershell Lee (Michelle) Jones Jr. of Douglas, GA, One Daughter; Michele (Lance) Ragans of Panama City Beach, FL, Eight Grandchildren; Misty Nichole Jones, Mikey Jones, Cole (Kasey) Harrell, Leah (Ryan) Streat, Courtney (Richard) Fuller, Amanda (Scott) Woodall, Jaci Jones, and Madison Jones, Three Sisters; Fillis Branch of Hazlehurst, GA, Alice (Maxwell) Wilcox of Hazlehurst, GA, and Debbie (Larry) Quinn of Hazlehurst, GA, Fourteen Great-Grandchildren and one on the way, along with several nieces and nephews, Extended family member Walter Lee (Gina-Gail) Joiner. He was preceded in death by: Father; Thomas E. Jones, and Mother; Elizabeth Marie Jones, Two Brothers; B.J. Jones, and Wayne Jones, and One Sister; Barbara Wood.
The family will receive friends from 6PM until 9PM, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 2PM, at The Chapel of Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Ambrose, GA.
Active Pallbearers include: Ryan Streat, Cole Harrell, Joey Wooten, Richard Fuller, Scott Woodall, and David Rowell.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Pilgrim’s Drivers and Shop Staff and Walter Lee Joiner.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family would like for all donations to be given to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County.
