Cheryl Ann Baker, 66, wife of new Still Waters Outreach president Rev. Richard Baker, passed away on December 24, 2023, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. The wreck occurred in Brantley County.

Another vehicle struck Baker’s vehicle. She was traveling with two of her children, both of who were injured in the accident.

In October, Still Waters Outreach leadership announced that Rev. Baker and a new leadership team would be taking over the board governance and oversight of daily operations at the center. Rev. Baker serves as president and chairman of Still Waters’ board of directors. Rev. Baker authored the book, Such a Worm As I, and was delivered from drugs and alcohol in 1979. He and Cheryl served as missionaries, pastors, and evangelists for over 40 years.

The transition brought with it the addition of three new positions: Three additional positions have been added with plans for organizational and programmatic expansion: an Executive Director, Magen Anderson; Director of Operations, Phil Anderson; and a Residential Coordinator, Chasity Hendrix.

December 15, 2023, Still Waters Outreach celebrated this new chapter with a ribbon cutting. Despite this terrible tragedy, the operations at Still Waters will continue as planned. Still Waters did release a statement on its Facebook page in the aftermath of the accident. It reads as follows: “It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Board President Richard Baker’s wife Cheryl. She was a kind and gentle soul and her presence will be greatly missed . . .  Prayers for the family are appreciated.”

The Baker family will hold a celebration of life on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Golden Isles Church of God in Brunswick at 4 pm. It will be live streamed on Still Waters’ Facebook page for those who cannot attend.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard Baker, children, Ricky Baker (Tiffany) of Waynesville, Ryan Baker (Mia) of Chattanooga, TN, Christopher Baker (Ashley) of Dallas, TX, Joshua Baker and Melanie Baker, both of Brunswick, brothers, Charlie Davis, Joey Davis, and Kenny Davis, all of Brunswick, grandchildren, Johnathan, Brayden, Kylie, Isaiah, Kaleigh , and Kingston Baker, Seneca and Everett Baker, Harper, Willow, and Brooks Baker, several nieces and nephews.
