The CCA Patriots overcame a slow start against Coastal Homeschool Tuesday in Douglas to win 7-2 and improve to 9-5 on the season.

The Patriots scored one in the second but fell behind 2-1 in the fourth. They tied the score at two in the bottom of the frame when Thomas Gentry scored on a Case Snipes ground out.

CCA broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. The Patriots loaded the bases with no outs when Blake Bryant drove in Tyson Crosby on a ground ball that Coastal misplayed. That gave CCA a 3-2 advantage with the bases loaded when one of the odder plays you’ll see on a baseball field took place. Gentry tripled and everyone – Gentry included – scored on a Coastal error. The bases-clearing miscue put the Patriots up 7-2. CCA didn’t add to their total after the triple and the game was called after five innings due to weather.

Gentry was 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Taeven Harden started for the Patriots and lasted 3 2/3 innings. Sam Ables and Hunter Hayes finished things off with Hayes getting the win.

The Patriots are in action again this afternoon against Southwest Georgia Academy in Douglas. Game time is scheduled for 4:30.
