The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the grand opening of Sea Shells Seafood, a long-awaited addition to the culinary landscape of Downtown Douglas. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on Monday, April 1, 2024, marked the official introduction of this seafood haven to the community. Sea Shells opened their doors to the public on April 2.

Sea Shells Seafood traces its roots back to 2016 when Marcus Hancock, a proud Douglas native, embarked on a mission to bring affordable quality seafood to Middle Georgia. With years of dedication and passion, Marcus perfected his craft, garnering admiration from residents who frequented his establishments in Middle Georgia. Now, after eight years of success, Sea Shells Seafood has found its new home in Douglas, thanks to the vision and dedication of DeWayne and Kawana Moffett, owners of YasXza Enterprises.

For the Moffett family, this venture is not just a business opportunity; it’s a heartfelt family endeavor. Their children, Yasmine Moffett and Zae Zae Moffett, will be integral in managing the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring that the spirit of family and community permeates every aspect of Sea Shells Seafood.

Conveniently located at 317 S. Peterson Avenue in Downtown Douglas, Sea Shells Seafood welcomes patrons seven days a week for lunch and dinner, boasting a full bar to complement their delectable offerings.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a jubilant affair, with esteemed guests and community leaders coming together to celebrate this momentous occasion. Chelsea Preston of the Chamber of Commerce extended a warm welcome, followed by blessings from Pastor Bob Powell of The Sanctuary. Ben Floyd, Chairman of the Chamber Board, reminisced about his days with DeWayne Moffett and extended heartfelt congratulations to the family.

Mayor Tony Paulk expressed his excitement at having Sea Shells Seafood as a local dining option, echoing the sentiments of many in attendance. Jeff Hennesy, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority, underscored the significance of Sea Shells Seafood’s presence in Downtown Douglas, giving insight into some exciting events to come in 2024.

Yasmine Moffett, deeply moved by the community’s support, shared her journey in the restaurant industry, highlighting her roots as a server at a Sea Shells location in Middle Georgia. With enthusiasm and gratitude, she embraced the opportunity to continue her family’s legacy in Douglas.

Deja Hancock, daughter of Marcus Hancock and head chef of Sea Shells Seafood, expressed her gratitude to the Douglas community for their warm welcome and shared insights into the rich history of the business.

Amidst smiles, cheers, and heartfelt embraces, the Moffett family proudly cut the ribbon, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter for Sea Shells Seafood in Douglas.

Sea Shells Seafood invites everyone to experience the flavors of the sea and the warmth of family hospitality. Join them as they embark on this exciting journey together!
