The Coffee Trojans outscored the Bradwell Institute Tigers 30-1 in a double header Friday afternoon at Charles Wilson Field in Douglas to complete the series sweep. The Trojans won game one 13-0 then came back and won game two 17-1 after scoring 15 runs in the first inning.

Tuesday, Coffee defeated Bradwell Institute 15-0.

The game was essentially over in the first inning when the Trojans scored six runs, four of which came courtesy of home runs. Ben Fussell led off the game for Coffee with a solo home run, his first high school homer. Michael Strickland walked then Cannon Jones singled. Payton Bryant followed, hitting a three-run home run to put Coffee up 4-0. The Trojans scored their last two runs of the inning when Brax Carson doubled to score Ben Roberts and Zae Smith.

Coffee would go on to score one in the second and six more in the third to take a 13-0. The final run came on Bryant’s second homer of the game, a solo shot to center on a 3-1 count.

Bryant was 2-3 with 2 home runs, 2 runs scored, and 6 RBI. Fussell went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Carson had 2 RBI and a run scored.

Gavin McElroy started and went 3 innings for the win, striking out 3, walking 5, and only giving up 1 hit. Weston Brown threw an inning in relief and struck out 2.

The Trojans took care of the Tigers in three innings in game two. Coffee pushed 15 runs across in the bottom of the first then added 2 more in the second. Bradwell scored its lone run the top of the third. Mason Lott drove in 3 while Brayden Musgrove, Roberts, and Bryant had 2 RBI each.

Three Trojans pitched an inning each: Fussell, Smith, and Roberts. Fussell was the pitcher of record, getting the win for Coffee.

While Coffee was dismantling Bradwell Institute, Ware and Greenbrier were locked in a battle for the region championship. Both teams had taken 2 out of 3 against the Trojans earlier this season. If Greenbrier could pull of the series win (they won Tuesday), Coffee would have a chance to move into second in the region. Unfortunately for the Trojans, Ware won the double header, taking the season series and winning the region in the process. With one region series left, Ware is the region champion with Greenbrier in second and Coffee in third.

The Trojans have three non-region games next week before finishing the regular season with three games against Jenkins beginning with a double header in Jenkins on April 16. Thursday, April 18, Coffee and Jenkins play the final game of the regular season in Douglas at 5 p.m.
