The Coffee Trojans easily dispatched the Jenkins Warriors in a double-header Tuesday afternoon, winning game one 15-1 and game two 18-2. Both games, which were played in Savannah, lasted five innings.

This week’s three-game series against the Warriors brings the regular season to a close. The Trojans have had the three seed locked up for a couple of weeks. The goal now is to finish the season with everyone healthy and the pitching staff rested.

Mission accomplished so far.

Coffee used two pitchers in each game and the four threw a combined 143 pitches. The offense was equally efficient, tallying 29 hits in the double-header.

Michael Strickland led the way offensively in game one. He went 3-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Right behind him were Connor Stewart (2-2, two runs scored and three RBI) and Zae Smith with three RBI. Cannon Jones and Carter McMillan also hit the ball well for Coffee. McMillan (three innings) and Weston Brown (two innings) threw a combined three-hitter against the Warriors.

Game two saw the Trojans pick up where they left off. They scored in every inning and set the stage for the game with a seven-run first inning. Mason Lott hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot with Jayden Register and Weston Brown on, in the top of the fifth. Lott’s three RBI led Coffee in the second game.

Pitchers Gavin McElroy and Brody Hare followed a similar script as McMilland and Brown did in game one. They combined for 56 pitches and allowed just one hit.

The Trojans are 22-5 overall with one regular season game remaining. At 4 p.m. Thursday, they finish the year with a home game against Jenkins.
