On April 15, most people were worried about their taxes. For a Douglas woman, however, the day had a greater sense of urgency.

According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, a DPD officer made a traffic stop at North Drive and Highway 221 North that landed Deborah Walker, 56, in jail on drug charges. It was Walker’s second arrest on drug charges in less than a month.

The report states that the officer noticed that Walker’s vehicle had a faulty brake light. The officer checked Walker’s identification as well as the IDs of passengers inside the vehicle. Walker stated that she did not have any identification on her. The officer asked Walker to get out of the vehicle, the report states. As she was getting out of the car, the officer smelled marijuana. Walker, the report states, admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day. The officer stated her intent to search the vehicle, which Walker denied. However, because the officer smelled marijuana, she had probable cause to search anyway, the report says.

Initially, Walker stated there was nothing illegal in the vehicle. She changed her story and said there was marijuana in the car. Then she backtracked again, saying “there was probably something else” in there.

The officer found a pouch that had Walker’s name on it. Inside the pouch were two small jars that contained suspected marijuana and methamphetamine. She was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. Walker remains in the Coffee County Jail.

Last month, Walker was also arrested on methamphetamine charges. She was released on bond shortly after her arrest.
