On April 16, 2024, an officer from the Douglas Police Department arrested Thomas Landon, 57, for allegedly driving down the road and hitting a woman who was in the vehicle with him.

E911 received a call just after 4 p.m. of a man hitting a woman in a vehicle. The man, identified as Landon, left the Jet store at Bowens Mill Road and Baker Highway. An incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that the vehicle pulled out in traffic and nearly hit another car. As Landon was driving, he allegedly was hitting a passenger.

The DPD officer who responded traveled to Willacoochee where Willacoochee police officers had stopped the vehicle. During the investigation, the officer learned that the victim, a 65-year-old woman, had told Landon to slow down because he was driving erratically, the report says. Then, according to the report, the victim said that Landon started hitting her. The report says that she also stated that he takes medication and was on his way home so he could get his  medicine. The victim had bruises on her left shoulder, the report says.

In the report, Landon admitted he did get upset about the victim “yelling and fussing at him so he hit her a couple of times.” He added that he wasn’t trying to hurt the victim. Landon was arrested and charged with battery — family violence (first offense) and exploiting/inflicting pain/depriving essential services to an elderly or disabled person. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.
