The Douglas Police Department aims to spread kindness and positivity throughout the community. Every year, DPD personnel organize “A Day to Celebrate and Encourage Random Acts of Kindness” to inspire people to make kindness a habit. This past February, they partnered with Zaxby’s to distribute cookies as a random act of kindness. The event was a huge success and the department is looking for ways to keep the momentum going.

Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette stated, “The Douglas Police Department’s Mission Statement reads, ‘We are dedicated to working in partnership with the community to provide exemplary service by maintaining a proud tradition of HONOR, INTEGRITY, and a Commitment to SERVICE.’ We don’t want our commitment to service to be limited to responding to calls. We want to foster a culture of kindness within the Douglas Police Department and the community.”

To achieve the DPD’s goal of providing service to the community, the department is establishing a Community Outreach Food and Hygiene Items Pantry. This initiative will aim to assist families in the community who need extra support. By donating non-perishable food items and hygiene products, the DPD hopes to spread kindness and make a positive difference in someone’s life. The pantry will be located at the Douglas Police Department, 225 W. Bryan St., Douglas, Ga. 31533.

Citizens are invited to join hands with the department to promote and make kindness the norm in Douglas all year round by donating to the pantry. Items to consider donating include non-perishable food items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, etc.

For more information, contact Chief Pruette at (912) 384-2222 or email bpruette@cityofdouglasga.gov. Donations may be dropped off at the Police Department located at 225 W. Bryan Street.
