Around 3:30 a.m. on May 26, 2024, a deputy responded to a stabbing call and found the victim walking around with a kitchen knife sticking out of his head near his right eye socket. The call led to the arrest of Victor Vazquez III, 29, of Douglas, on aggravated battery and aggravated assault charges.
According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, when the deputy arrived at the location, EMS was already on the scene performing life-saving measures. Despite the knife in his head, the victim was conscious and walking, the report says.
The fight happened at the home of the victim’s brother. The brother said he had been in Valdosta and had just gotten home. He was getting ready to go to bed when he heard a commotion outside. The report describes it as a “fighting noise.” The victim then started banging on the door of the home. The victim’s brother went outside and saw two vehicles and several people on the property, one of whom was identified as Vazquez. The report also mentions that the victim and Vazquez had problems in the past.
Other officers arrived and the deputies secured the scene and began an investigation. They turned over the investigation to the Criminal Investigations Division. On June 1, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers arrested Vazquez and charged him with aggravated battery and aggravated assault. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
