Skip scanning at self-checkout kiosks is a popular way to attempt to commit fraud. It doesn’t, however, always work out. This is one of those cases.

On June 22, 2024, an officer with the Douglas Police Department answered a call at Walmart Supercenter regarding a suspected shoplifting. The officer spoke with an employee who said that they had caught a female skip scanning items. The female, identified as Melinda Bush, 56, of Douglas, was still at the register, the report states. The amount of merchandise she had allegedly skip scanned was $32.36.

Bush was arrested and taken to the Coffee County Jail. She was charged with refund fraud ($500 or less) and booked into the jail. She has since been released.
