Jackson Banks, a former Trojan who played his freshman year of football at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, has signed with Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Banks, a defensive lineman listed at 6’1”, 280 lbs., played in 10 games with Mississippi Gulf Coast, totaling 15 tackles and half a sack. He had planned to transfer to Georgia Military College in Milledgeville for his sophomore campaign. But then the Monarchs came calling. They had been watching Banks during his freshman season. After the season ended, they let him know they were interested. Banks signed with Old Dominion on June 1 and moved in on June 15. He’s been up there working out with the team ever since.

Old Dominion is a Division I FBS team that plays in the Sunbelt Conference, along with Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Marshall, Coastal Carolina, Troy, and others.

At Coffee, Banks was an excellent player and student. He graduated with a 3.87 GPA and finished his senior season with 37 total tackles, five sacks, one fumble recovery, two quarterback hurries, and a safety against Decatur in the state playoffs.

Last year, Old Dominion posted a 6-7 overall record and 5-3 mark in conference play. They finished fourth in the Sunbelt East division. The Monarchs were bowl eligible and played in the Famous Toastery Bowl, where they lost 38-35 in overtime to Western Kentucky.

Old Dominion begins the 2024 season on August 31 at South Carolina.
