The CCA Patriots checked off several firsts Friday night: It was their first ever football game in their home stadium on the CCA campus; it was their first varsity football game in 18 years; and, most importantly, it was their first win of the season. The Patriots defeated the Memorial Day School (Savannah) Matadors 30-8 and are 1-0 on the 2024 season.

The Patriots led the Matadors 24-0 at halftime and added a score in the third quarter. Memorial Day got on the board in the second half but never threatened a comeback of any kind.

Sophomore Tyson Crosby turned in a dominant performance for CCA. He accounted for three of the Patriots’ touchdowns – one passing, one receiving, and one rushing. Crosby had seven carries for 88 yards, one catch for four yards, and he threw a touchdown pass for 25 yards. He also led the way for CCA on defense, recording nine total tackles (seven solo). Fellow sophomore Jonah Hall also scored two touchdowns – one rushing and one receiving.

Defensively, Luke Russ finished with seven tackles, two sacks, and a safety. Clay Phillips also had a sack for CCA. Not to be outdone, Hall also had five tackles.

Friday, August 23, the Patriots head south to Jacksonville, Fla., for their second game of the year. They will face the First Coast Christian Knights at 7:30 p.m. The game will be the Knights’ first of the season. CCA returns home to face Baker County on Friday, August 30.
