Wednesday afternoon, officials with the Coffee County School System released a statement regarding an incident that occurred Tuesday at Westside Elementary School. On Tuesday, students found a loaded pistol magazine in one of the boys’ restrooms on campus. Officers from the school system’s police department searched the school and did not find a weapon.

Wednesday, the system issued the following release:

“Yesterday [it was] reported to you that some students found a pistol magazine containing several bullets in a trash can in a boys’ restroom. Today it was determined that an 8-year-old student brought the magazine from home and hid it in the restroom. No weapon was brought onto campus.

“Westside Elementary School and the Coffee County School System remain committed to the safety and well-being of all our students, faculty, and staff.”
