On August 14, 2024, two Douglas police officers responded to a prowler call on Pearl Avenue. What they found was a suspect sitting in a golf cart who was in possession of suspected illegal drugs.

According to a report from the police department, the call came in around 3 a.m. Two officers responded. When they arrived on the scene, there was no one around the home. However, a few houses down was an individual sitting in a golf cart. The second officer spoke with him while the first officer looked around the house. When the first officer was done, he joined the second officer.

According to the report, the individual was identified as Kunta Kente Smith, 46, of Douglas. When the first officer got to Smith, the second officer was placing him in handcuffs. Smith had an active warrant through the sheriff’s office. Smith was handcuffed and taken to the Coffee County Jail.

At the jail, officers noticed a bulge in one of his socks. They investigated further and a folded Uno card fell out. Inside the Uno card was a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Smith was charged with possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender, and reckless conduct. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.
