The good news is the Citizens Christian Academy Lady Patriots continued scoring runs in bunches last Thursday, plating nine against the Trinity Christian Crusaders. The bad news is that, for the first time this season, their opponents scored more – 13 to be exact.

After opening the season with seven straight wins, the Lady Patriots dropped their first game of the year to the Crusaders in Douglas on Thursday. CCA held the lead a couple of times in the game but Trinity Christian refused to give up. Six errors didn’t help the Lady Patriots’ cause, either.

The Lady Patriots jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The Crusaders answered with four of their own in the second CCA added one in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 5-4. The Crusaders tied it at five in the top of the third. The Lady Patriots added a run on an error in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-5 lead.

Then the Crusaders took control. They scored two in the fourth and six in the fifth to take a 13-6 lead. CCA responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth then two in the bottom of the seventh. In the end, though, their rally came up short. Trinity Christian did what no other team had been able to do this season – put a mark in CCA’s loss column.

There were some bright spots, of course. Brilynn Waldron put on a clinic at the plate, going 4-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Emy Lowery and Cadence Cravey also had two hits. Arabelle Roberts scored twice and stole three bases.

CCA used its three pitchers in the game: Lowery, Gracie Giddens, and Peighton Harper. Giddens, the second pitcher of the day, took the loss for the Lady Patriots.

CCA is 7-1 on the season and returns to action Tuesday, September 3, at 4:30 p.m. against Charlton County in Douglas.
