Gracie Giddens threw a four-inning, three-hit complete game and shortstop Emma Gourley was 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored in the CCA Lady Patriots’ 13-1 run-rule shortened win over the Charlton County Maidens Tuesday afternoon on the CCA campus.

Until last Thursday’s loss to Trinity Christian, the Lady Patriots had opened the season with a seven-game winning streak. The Crusaders ended that streak with a strong performance on CCA’s home field. How would the Lady Patriots respond?

They answered with one of their best games of the season.

CCA opened the game with their collective feet on the gas and they never let up. The Lady Patriots scored four in the first inning. Gourley singled in a run then Madi Rucker drove in two with a sacrifice fly. Giddens followed with an RBI double to give CCA a 4-0 lead after one. The home team followed with two in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth to end the game via the 12-run rule. Charlton County mustered a single run in the second.

Giddens threw 63 pitches – 44 for strikes – over four innings. She struck out five, walked one, gave up three hits, and surrendered one earned run. She helped her own cause with a 2-3 day at the plate that included an RBI.

Cadence Cravey was also 1-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Emy Lowery had two hits and two RBI for the Lady Patriots as well.

CCA is now 8-1 on the season. Their next two games – Thursday against David Emanuel and Tuesday against Trinity Christian – are on the road. They return home on Thursday, September 12 with a 4 p.m. contest against Robert Toombs.
