The Miami-Dade Police Department officer who handcuffed Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill Sunday morning during a traffic stop a block away from Hard Rock Stadium has been placed on administrative duties while the department conducts an investigation into what happened.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, as Hill was on his way to the stadium to prepare for the Dolphins’ season opener against the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars, police stopped him for allegedly speeding. During the traffic stop, a “verbal altercation” ensued and Hill found himself facedown on the ground in handcuffs. Other Miami players saw what was happening and came to his aid.

Hill was eventually charged with reckless driving and released. However, multiple videos of the incident have been posted on social media showing Hill both on the ground and standing up while handcuffed. The incident quickly made headlines and Hill’s detainment was the dominant storyline as kickoff approached.

Hill played in the game and caught seven passes for 130 yards, one of which was an 80-yard touchdown. Miami won 20-17.

Following the game, Hill addressed the situation, maintaining that he had done nothing to warrant that kind of treatment. He stated that he was not disrespectful nor did he use any profanity at the officers. When Hill learned that the officer had been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation, ESPN quoted him as saying, “That should tell you everything you need to know, then.”
