On September 15, 2024 at about 1:30 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2009 Jeep Liberty that didn’t have headlights on. The incident went from a simple traffic stop to a drug investigation rather quickly and landed the driver, identified as Clinton Dakota Godfrey, 33, of Douglas, in jail on illegal drug charges.

An incident report from the sheriff’s office stated that once the deputy had the vehicle stopped and the driver outside, the deputy patted down Godfrey and found four pills in his pocket. During a search of the Liberty, the officer found a bag containing a white powdery substance he believed to be ground up tablets.

Godfrey was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. However, while the towing company was preparing to transport the Liberty via wrecker, an employee found a bag of suspected methamphetamine in the floor of the vehicle. The suspected methamphetamine weighed 33 grams. The four tablets were identified as acetaminophen and oxycodone.

Godfrey was eventually charged with several traffic violations along with possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and trafficking methamphetamine. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.
