The annual Cup of Coffee VEX Robotics tournament showcased cutting-edge innovation and problem-solving by pushing the boundaries of design, programming, and teamwork. Students from six schools competed in the all-day event for a variety of awards and hopefully an invitation to the state championships in February.

Jerry Hill, Coffee High School Robotics advisor stated, “We were excited to see our teams compete and channel their creativity and technical skills into real-world applications. Events like these inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators.”

This tournament is an opportunity for the community to witness firsthand the transformative potential of STEM education and innovation. Attendees had the opportunity to watch a very competitive tournament and one that saw Coffee team 1253B compete in the finals and place 2nd. Even though the Coffee team didn’t win the tournament it was a vast improvement from the previous tournament where they finished 25th out of 29 teams.

The Coffee team 1253B consisted of Jovanny Gomez, Logan Hardee, and Aldair Ramirez. Two other Coffee teams competed in the tournament as well. The team 1253X consisted of Jolston Dean, Clemente Castro, and Ian Farmer. Team 1253Y included Sebastian Hickerson and Nathaniel Parkerson. Both 1253 X and 1253Y are new teams and had only a few days to build and compete. It was an outstanding effort on their part.

A special thank you goes to the Eagle Lake Bone Pickers, FNBCC, Colony Bank, Pilgrims Pride, Bad Ash Motors, Three Pines Leasing, Shell Rapid Lube, Jessica Baker, Chris Goodwill, and Alyse Hall. These supporters and their contributions are instrumental in fostering growth in robotics and many other STEM fields.
