A 37-year-old Douglas man remains in jail after he allegedly took his mother’s vehicle after the two argued over money, according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office.
The report states that around 6:30 p.m. on February 2, 2025, officers responded to a Rabbit Run address in response to a vehicle theft. The complainant stated that Zeke William Buttz, 37, of Douglas, had taken her maroon 2018 Ford Flex from the residence. The two had argued over money, the report says, and Buttz took the vehicle and her purse after the complainant said she wasn’t giving him any money.
According to the report, in addition to the vehicle, Buttz took the purse valued at $80, a $200 cellphone, checkbook, debit card, $200 cash, and two containers of prescription medication. The report states that Buttz went to a home in Mora but left before officers arrived. He also went to another home in Atkinson County and stated that he had a gun and people were trying to kill him. Individuals there called the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office to have him removed from the premises.
Buttz was finally apprehended on the morning of February 3, 2025, and booked into the Coffee County Jail around 7:45 a.m. He was charged with theft by taking as well as six probation violations. He has not been released.
