On February 19, 2025, a 33-year-old Douglas man was arrested on a variety of charges after an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend. The incident took place at around 1:30 a.m.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, a deputy responded to a domestic call on Bud Hutcheson Road on February 19. In the report, the complainant stated that she had to take her daughter out of town for a chemotherapy appointment. She asked her ex, Anthony Abney, 33, if he wanted to go. He said no. They went to the appointment and came back home, the report states. When they returned, the report says that Abney “had an attitude.” From there, according to the report, things deteriorated. The two argued and the complainant asked Abney to leave. He said that if he left, he was taking the child with him, the report says.
The complainant picked up the child and attempted to leave. The report says that Abney blocked her way. He was also hitting her and pushing her against a wall of the house. In the report, the complainant stated that she felt as though Abney was holding her against her will. The complainant was finally able to get past Abney. Then Abney told her that he wasn’t done with her and went into the bathroom to take a shower, according to the report. The complainant took all of the kids in the home and left. She returned an hour later and found that Abney had left. However, the report says that he broke a table, there was a hole in the wall, and a printer had been broken. The total amount of damage was around $450.
The officer took warrants against Abney, who was taken into custody around 8:30 a.m. on February 20. He was charged with simple battery, false imprisonment, criminal trespass, and cruelty to children (two counts). He was booked into the Coffee County Jail.
