Mary “Carmeľ” Walker, age 81, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28th, 2025, at Coffee Regional Medical Center. She was born to John A. Hoppman and Lucile H Hoppman, both of whom have preceded her in death. Carmel is preceded in death by her husband, George Walker Jr.
Carmel lived a life filled with love, devotion, and kindness. For many years, Carmel worked as a childcare provider, touching the lives of numerous families in her community. She found joy in nurturing and guiding children, always offering a compassionate ear and helping hand.
Carmel had two daughters, Alicia Kelly and Melissa Meeks (Dale Meeks), and one son, Merrill Corbitt. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Dillon Meeks (Debbie Meeks), Patricia Kelly, MaKenzie Meeks, Caroline Kelly, Alivia Corbitt, and Lucas Corbitt.
Carmel is also survived by her sister, Margret Seabrook (Ed Seabrook), along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Joan H. Cohklin and John A. Hoppman Jr.
She was known for her warm smile, kind spirit, and the way she made everyone feel like they were a part of her extended family.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Douglas Christian Fellowship in Douglas Georgia, followed by a service at 2:00 pm. Rev. Buddy Phillips and Rev. Bob Powell will officiate the service. Carmel will be laid to rest at Sandgrove Cemetery in Milan, Georgia, where she will be remembered and honored by her loved ones.
Active pallbearers will be Merrill Corbitt, Dale Meeks, Dillon Meeks, Mark McGilvery, Stacy Kirkland, and Trevor Meeks. Honorary pallbearer Lucas Corbitt.
She will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain a source of comfort and strength for those who knew and loved her.
