A seemingly benign traffic stop that took place on March 11, 2025, at around 10 p.m. in Broxton ended up being something much, much more.

According to an incident report from the Broxton Police Department, Broxton PD officers stopped a vehicle on 441 North near the Dollar General store. The reason for the stop was an alleged cell phone violation. During the stop, officers discovered three pounds of marijuana laced with narcotics wrapped in green indoor/outdoor carpet, a cell phone, and a very advanced drone. The investigation revealed that, using the drone, the drugs were going to be smuggled into a correctional facility for inmates.

The two individuals in the car, Gustavo Carranza, 37, of Atlanta, and Amanda Louise McCall, 31, of Augusta, were arrested and charged with the following: Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II Controlled Substance with intent to distribute (two counts), and eight counts of giving to or possession by inmates prohibited items.

These are the second such arrests made in Coffee County recently. On March 3, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Virginia Smith, 58, and her daughter, 28-year-old Angelique Tucker, for allegedly having contraband they were going to provide to inmates. Smith has been released from jail but Tucker remains incarcerated.

Officers from the Georgia Department of Corrections also assisted with these investigations.
