Despite Miami GM’s comments that Dolphins aren’t shopping Tyreek Hill, his future in Miami remains uncertain

Will he or won’t he? That’s been the biggest question for the Miami Dolphins this offseason.

The “he,” of course, is wide receiver Tyreek Hill. And the question is whether Hill will be traded from Miami before the start of the 2025 season. Hill made a few cryptic comments about his future when the 2024 campaign, the worst of his eight-year NFL career, came to an end.

Since then, the rumor mill has been awash with reports ranging from those stating that Hill would almost certainly be traded to others saying he isn’t going anywhere. Reports coming from NFL insiders this week have done nothing but further muddy the waters.

Yesterday, Miami general manager Chris Grier said that the Dolphins aren’t looking to trade Hill. “That is not anything that we’re pursuing,” Grier was quoted as saying in a USAToday.com story. However, in the same breath, Grier named his price for trading the likely future Hall of Famer. “If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks, we’ll consider it,” he added.

Hill has two more years left on his monster contract with Miami. His base salary is $10 million but he has $27.65 million remaining in guaranteed money for 2025 and a base salary of $29.9 million for 2026 with no guaranteed money, according to the USAToday.com story.

In spite of what Grier said, those kinds of comments oftentimes don’t mean very much. One gets the feeling that the Dolphins would indeed trade Hill for the right offer – even one involving less than Grier’s aforementioned two first-round picks.

Wednesday morning, another story hit the web stating that the Seattle Seahawks had some interest in obtaining Hill to boost their receiving corps. Other teams that keep coming up in the supposedly non-existent Hill sweepstakes include the Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, and, almost incredibly, his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

This past season, Hill caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns, the lowest totals for his career. Hill, however, battled a wrist injury all season long that affected his performance. It was also the first season that he didn’t make the Pro Bowl and his team didn’t make the playoffs.

In all the uncertainty regarding Hill’s future, one thing is certain – Grier’s comments on Tuesday have done little to quieten the Hill trade rumors. At the very least, he has named his price. And teams no doubt took notice. It is appearing all the more likely that Hill will not be in a Miami uniform when the 2025 NFL season starts.
