A statewide special primary election is scheduled for June 17, 2025. The general election will take place on November 4, 2025. The election is for two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission; eight candidates are running for those positions.

The Public Service Commission has several different tasks but its primary job is to supervise utilities, Georgia Power in particular. The PSC votes on Georgia Power rate hikes and plans, and it oversaw the Plant Vogtle expansion project, which was finally completed in April of last year.

The two seats that are up for election this year are District 2 and District 3. Both are held by Republicans – Tim Echols (District 2) and Fitz Johnson (District 3). These elections were supposed to be held three years ago but a legal case caused delays. Echols and Johnson have remained on the Commission and serving while the case was pending, and both are running for re-election.

For District 2, another Republican, Lee Muns, is running. A lone Democrat, Alicia Johnson, a Savannah resident, has also thrown her name into the race.

Johnson doesn’t have any Republican opposition in District 3. However, four Democrats are fighting for their party’s nomination: Daniel Blackman, Peter Hubbard, Robert Jones, and Keisha Sean Waites.

Even though these are district races, voters statewide cast ballots in the elections.

The polls will be open in Coffee County for advance voting from May 27 to June 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Polls will also be open Saturday, May 31, and June 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advance voting will take place in the Coffee County Board of Elections Office at 224 West Ashley Street, Suite A, which is the new Coffee County Courthouse Annex.

Election day is Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters will cast ballots at their normal polling places.

A runoff, if required, will take place on July 15, 2025.

If you are not sure where that is please contact the Coffee County Board of Elections at 912-384-7018 or go to mvp.sos.ga.gov
