Georgia Regional Commissions see unemployment rates drop in April

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that unemployment declined in every regional commission across Georgia in April.
 
“This April, unemployment rates dropped across every region of Georgia,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When we connect Georgians with meaningful work, we’re putting food on tables, creating stability for individuals and families, and building an economy where our children can see their future—right here at home. This is how we grow a stronger Georgia—one job, one family, one community at a time.”

Please see a synopsis of each regional commission below. Coffee and Atkinson counties are in the Southern Georgia Regional Commission:

Atlanta Regional Commission

  • The unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 3.1% over the month, the rate was 3.0% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 15,947 over the month and down 9,854 over the year, to 2,690,488.
  • The number of employed was down 1,948 over the month and down 11,676 over the year, to 2,607,844.
  • Initial claims were up 1,020 over the month and up 833 over the year, to 10,791.

Central Savannah River

  • The unemployment rate was down six-tenths to 3.7% over the month, the rate was 3.7% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 2,340 over the month and down 1,375 over the year, to 210,902.
  • The number of employed was up 3,614 over the month and down 1,224 over the year, to 203,129.
  • Initial claims were up 97 over the month and down 156 over the year, to 833.

Coastal Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down seven-tenths to 2.7% over the month, the rate was 2.7% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 1,344 over the month and down 2,885 over the year, to 354,076.
  • The number of employed was up 1,143 over the month and down 2,941 over the year, to 344,478.
  • Initial claims were up 144 over the month and down 127 over the year, to 980.

Georgia Mountains

  •  unemployment rate was down seven-tenths to 2.6% over the month, the rate was 2.5% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 694 over the month and up 1,038 over the year, to 242,675.
  • The number of employed was up 1,016 over the month and up 737 over the year, to 236,320.
  • Initial claims were up 136 over the month, and up 38 over the year, to 646. 

Heart of Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down seven-tenths to 3.3% over the month, the rate was 3.3% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 1,433 over the month and down 1,785 over the year, to 116,448.
  • The number of employed was down 610 over the month and down 1,676 over the year, to 112,613.
  • Initial claims were up 69 over the month, and down 122 over the year, to 524.

Middle Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down six-tenths to 3.2% over the month, the rate was 3.1% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 1,963 over the month and up 43 over the year, to 222,015.
  • The number of employed was down 350 over the month and down 45 over the year, to 215,016.
  • Initial claims were up 28 over the month and down 49 over the year, to 784.

Northeast Georgia 

  • The unemployment rate was down six-tenths to 2.9% over the month, the rate was 2.7% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 2,005 over the month and up 1,123 over the year, to 348,437.
  • The number of employed was up 273 over the month and up 637 over the year, to 338,458.
  • Initial claims were up 101 over the month and up 136 over the year, to 1,059.

Northwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down six-tenths to 2.9% over the month, the rate was 2.9% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 2,103 over the month and down 732 over the year, to 453,810.
  • The number of employed was up 540 over the month and down 829 over the year, to 440,585.
  • Initial claims were up 498 over the month and down 603 over the year, to 2,203.

River Valley

  • The unemployment rate was down six-tenths to 3.7% over the month, the rate was 3.5% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 942 over the month and down 2,238 over the year, to 143,689.
  • The number of employed was up 67 over the month and down 2,335 over the year, to 138,427.
  • Initial claims were up 273 over the month and up 270 over the year, to 825.

Southern Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down seven-tenths to 3.2% over the month, the rate was 3.1% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 1,074 over the month and down 2,282 over the year, to 174,201.
  • The number of employed was up 146 over the month and down 2,466 over the year, to 168,568.
  • Initial claims were up 26 over the month and down 36 over the year, to 672.

Southwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down seven-tenths to 3.3% over the month, the rate was 3.2% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 1,104 over the month and down 2,392 over the year, to 147,105.
  • The number of employed was down 108 over the month and down 2,456 over the year, to 142,245.
  • Initial claims were up 45 over the month and down 24 over the year, to 551.

Three Rivers

  • The unemployment rate was down six-tenths to 3.0% over the month, the rate was 2.8% one year ago.
  • The labor force was down 1,986 over the month and down 33 over the year, to 267,827.
  • The number of employed was down 453 over the month and down 721 over the year, to 259,746.
  • Initial claims were up 188 over the month and up 147 over the year, to 1,119.
