Before long, there’s going to be a new doctor in the house – an animal doctor, that is. Tamia Walker, one of the distinguished Coffee High School graduates who walked the stage last Saturday, is headed to Georgia Southern University to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

During her four years at CHS, she completed the animal science pathway, graduating with honors along the way. She earned an impressive menagerie of scholarships, the most notable of which is the S-Stem Scholarship, good for $40,000 (she was one of just 18 recipients of this scholarship). Tamia also received the SOAR Beyond Scholarship and the GSU Honors Scholarship. Those scholarships will give Tamia the flexibility she needs in order to attack her school work with a single-minded determination. “I really want to focus on my educational life at Georgia Southern. I intend to do a lot better than I did in high school,” she says.

Tamia is a talented, driven, and inspirational young lady who is grounded in her faith and driven to excel. She is involved in her church, she’s an officer in National Honor Society, a member of the Environmental Science Club, a member of the First National Bank of Coffee County Junior Board, and she participates in Upward Bound.

Tamia is quick to point out that she hasn’t been able to accomplish all of this on her own. She’s had some a little help – and that help has been invaluable. “Besides my mom, my biggest role models are my advisor, Channtee Gamble, and my counselor, Rachel Ho. They’ve helped me out more than I can express in words,” says Tamia.

She continues: “I think my friends would say that I’m caring, driven, focused, and grounded in my faith. My greatest strength is my ability to accomplish whatever I set my mind to. My greatest weakness is my need to make everything perfect. I chose Georgia Southern because it’s a beautiful campus and I know it will push me to step outside of my comfort zone,” she says.

Congratulations and good luck, future Dr. Walker!
